Local district funding gaps

As we note on 'The State funding shortfall' page, the gap is huge between current State funding and what it actually costs to provide all Washington children with the education described in the State Essential Academic Learning Requirements. Click on the links below to view graphs that illustrate this gap for NEWS member school districts and other local school districts across the state. Click here to see a graph showing the statewide funding gap.

Please note: The data used to create these charts for use in the 2009 trial is from the 2007-2008 school year. The "Other State funds" category on each chart is what the State asserts is not any part of providing a “basic education,” such as amounts for teacher training, I-728 class size reductions, I-732 cost-of-living adjustments, construction and/or levy assistance to poorer districts. The State's 2009-11 budget cut total funding for this category by more than half. The State's 2011-13 budget then cut that reduced amount by even more.
